Three Mercy RNs Honored Among 100 Great Iowa Nurses

The list of 100 Great Iowa Nurses for 2010 includes three registered nurses working in the Mercy Medical Center—Sioux City ministry organization.

Nancy Hoss, Karin Ward, and Nancy Corcoran will be honored this Sunday at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines.

“Their inclusion on the list of Iowa’s 100 Great Nurses recognizes that they have made a meaningful and lasting contribution to humanity and the nursing profession, and are viewed as a mentor to others,” said Rita Frantz, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, chairwoman of 100 Great Iowa Nurses.

Hoss, Ward and Corcoran were nominated for the honor by their peers at Mercy Medical Center—Sioux City and Baum Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar.

Nancy Hoss is a charge and floor nurse in Mercy Medical Center’s medical/surgical unit. A graduate of Western Iowa Technical Community College, Hoss has worked at Mercy since 1991. She recently participated in a surgical mission trip to Bolivia.

Karin Ward is a specially trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner in Pediatrics (SANE-P) for the Mercy Child Advocacy Center, where she has worked for the past 9 years. Previously she worked in Mercy’s Cardiology Department and ICU for 11 years.

Ward is a graduate of Western Iowa Technical Community College, and is currently working on her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Briar Cliff University.

Nancy Corcoran is clinical care coordinator and community education coordinator for Baum Harmon Mercy Hospital. She also serves as a circulating RN in the operating room as well as a staff nurse at the hospital. Corcoran has worked at the hospital for the past 16 years. She earned her associate degree in nursing at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Briar Cliff University.
