First Bubba Shuffle Supports Mercy Child Advocacy Center
A new run/walk event in Denison, Iowa dedicated to an abuse victim will benefit the Mercy Child Advocacy Center, a service of Mercy Medical Center—Sioux City. The first annual Bubba Shuffle will be held on Saturday, April 17 at 10:00 a.m. at Yellow Smoke Park near Denison.
According to its organizers, the event is named for Denison native Aaron (Bubba) Brown, a 15-year-old with special needs who was the victim of abuse last year in a special care facility. They say the run/walk event is their stand against all forms of abuse against children who cannot speak for themselves.
All proceeds for the event benefit the Mercy Child Advocacy Center, which was the first child protection program in the state of Iowa to gain national accreditation.
The registration fee for the run/walk is $25. Competition will be staged in six different age groups.
For more information about the Bubba Shuffle, call (515) 203-6106 or visit www.fitnesssports.com.
Established in 1989, the Mercy Child Advocacy Center has effectively helped thousands of children who were the victims of abuse. Physicians, social workers, nurses, family advocates, officials from the Department of Human Services (DHS), law enforcement, the county attorney’s office and the juvenile court system work together to ensure that the physical and emotional needs of child victims are fully met.
The program is devoted to the accurate detection of child abuse and the careful investigation of alleged child abuse in a 33 county area in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota.
