First Ever Champions4Children Walk Benefits Child Abuse Victims
Walkers from across the state of Iowa will lace up their shoes for a statewide walk in support of the Mercy Child Advocacy Center and the Iowa Chapter of Children’s Advocacy Centers (ICCAC) on Saturday, May 15.
Registration for the first-ever Champions4Children Walk will begin at 8:00 a.m. the banquet/convention entrance of Bev’s on the River in Sioux City. The three-mile walk begins at 9:00 a.m.
The Mercy Child Advocacy Center serves abused and neglected children in a forty-county region in Siouxland. Established in 1994, ICCAC is the network that coordinates and provides a comprehensive response to child abuse in Iowa.
The purpose of the walk will be to increase awareness, knowledge, and education, according to Stacie Papineau, director of ICCAC. “Each walker - each supporter - is a true Champion for Children,” she said. “Additionally, the Champions4Children Walk will increase knowledge about the services of local children’s advocacy centers and the difference these services make in a child’s life.”
Captain Lisa Claeys of the Sioux City Police Department will be the grand marshal for the Champions4Children event in Sioux City.
The fee for the walk is $15. All participants who register prior to May 5 will receive a t-shirt. Registrations received after that date are not guaranteed a t-shirt.
