Mercy Announces Appointment of President and CEO
Mercy Medical Center—Sioux City has announced that Bob Peebles has been appointed the hospital system’s president and CEO on a permanent basis. He has served as Mercy’s interim CEO since May 15, 2009.
With the unanimous support and endorsement of Mercy’s board of directors, Peebles’ appointment was made official Friday by Ron Peterson, the board’s chairperson, Dave Vellinga, chairperson of the Mercy Health Network, and Rick O’Connell, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Hospital Networks for Trinity Health, the Novi, Mich. based Catholic healthcare organization with which Mercy is affiliated.
Prior to joining Mercy last year, Peebles served as chief advisor to the board of the Michigan Peer Review Organization, the quality improvement entity that is Michigan’s federal contractor for Medicare.
Through his career, Peebles has been president and CEO of several healthcare organizations including Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, Louisiana from 2003 to 2006.
From 2000 to 2003, Peebles was president of the Brooklyn Queens Division of St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center in New York, NY. That leadership position included his oversight of four New York hospitals, St. Mary’s, St. John’s, Mary Immaculate, and St. Joseph’s.
Previously Peebles held leadership positions in human resources as well as physician and hospital relations in Detroit and Rochester, Mich.
Peebles received his undergraduate degree in business management from Oakland University in Rochester, Mich. and earned a law degree from Michigan State/Detroit College of Law in Detroit.
Mari Kaptain-Dahlen will continue to serve as Mercy’s executive vice president and chief operating officer (COO).
In addition to Mercy Medical Center—Sioux City, Peebles and Mercy’s board of directors provide leadership for Baum Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar, Iowa, Oakland Mercy Hospital in Oakland, Neb., and Mercy Medical Services, which directs 42 owned or managed family practice and specialty clinics and two managed hospitals, Pender Community Hospital in Pender, Neb. and Hawarden Community Hospital in Hawarden, Iowa.
