James Olson, Senior Speech Language Pathologist at Mercy Medical Center-Sioux City, has recently completed extensive training in the area of swallowing assessment. Olson is now certified in MBSlmP, Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile. The MCSlmP is an evidence based standardization of the Modified Barium Swallow study in adults. It evaluates 17 components of the patient's swallowing and increases the ability to recommend the correct diet and treatment plan for those with swallowing disorders.
Olson works at Mercy Medical Center treating adults with disorders of swallowing, speech, language, voice and cognitive/linguistics. He has special interest in the areas of voice and swallowing where he has taken further training. He is Lee Silverman Voice Treatment certified which facilitates improvement in communication in individuals with Parkinson's disease. He has also received certification to treat swallowing disorders using neuromuscular electrical stimulation.
"My goal is and will always be to achieve having the patient eating as safely as possible and as soon as possible," says Olson.
