Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare Joins University of Iowa Health Alliance
A fifth health system has joined the University of Iowa Health Alliance (UIHA). This newcomer helps strengthen the alliance coverage across Iowa.
Mercy Medical Center-Sioux City joined UIHA in June 2012 as the organization was launched. The alliance provides access to a larger referral network, and standardizes best practices for better coordinated care across the state and its surrounding areas. Fifty-eight hospitals and 175 physician clinics are part of the alliance.
Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-Iowa announced it would be joining with UIHA in April. It brings three hospitals to the alliance network: Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, and Mercy Hospital in Oelwein. In addition, Covenant Clinic will join the alliance. The clinic represents 130 primary care and specialty providers. This new UIHA member is part of a larger organization known as Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare. It is one of the largest providers of care in Southeast Wisconsin.

Brian Monsma, VP of Network Development said, “Through the alliance, we are focused on improving clinical integration and evidence-based care for all Iowans. The addition of Wheaton to our network is an important step in offering the right care at the right place and time.”
UIHA offers its members the unique opportunity to remain independent, continuing their commitment to local legacies and governance authorities. As a member of UIHA, Mercy jointly promotes community wellness, uses the same care models, invests together in key systems such as information technologies, and is represented in new insurance network opportunities.
