News Releases

Start Date
With health care reform on the horizon, Mercy Medical Center is embarking on a project designed to bring relevant and timely health care information to the people of Siouxland. The initiative is called Mercy 101 and will feature free, monthly presentations on topics of interest to the residents of our region.

Jim Wharton, the Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at Mercy, says Mercy 101 is a wonderful opportunity for residents to listen, learn and ask questions of health care experts. “Every month, we will gather for one hour to hear local experts discuss issues like heart disease, diabetes, cancer treatment and other health care related matters,” said Wharton. “The classes are free to the public and all participants will leave with a better understanding of ways they can positively impact their health.”

Mercy 101 is free to the public and will be held on the 4th Tuesday of every month from October through May (with the exception of the December and April presentations) in the hospital’s Leiter Room. In addition to having an opportunity to listen and ask questions of doctors and other health care providers, attendees will receive a free Mercy 101 binder for their materials and also be able to take advantage of free health screenings and occasional giveaways at many sessions. Mercy 101 classes will begin at 6:30 p.m. and last one hour.

Registration is required and may be done online at Click on the Classes and Events tab and select Mercy 101 from the Event drop-down box or register by phone at 712-279-2989. Attendees may attend as many of the monthly sessions as they like. Early registrations are encouraged as a few of the classes are already close to capacity. Here is the schedule for the first four months of Mercy 101. The remaining schedule beginning in February will be released later this fall.
