Last month Mercy Medical Center launched Mercy 101 – a series of monthly presentations dealing with various aspects of healthcare in Siouxland. The November Mercy 101 class is coming up on Tuesday, November 22nd and features Mercy Cardiology’s Dr. Mick Hurley who will speak on the issue of “Taking Care of Your Ticker.”
Jim Wharton, the Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at Mercy, says the Mercy 101 class is close to capacity so interested participants should call as soon as possible to reserve a seat. “Mercy 101 is a wonderful opportunity for residents to listen, learn and ask questions of health care experts,” said Wharton. “In addition, all attendees will have an opportunity to have a mini-carotid artery check up following the presentation.”
Mercy 101 classes are free to the public and will be held on the 4th Tuesday of every month through May (with the exception of the December and April presentations) in the hospital’s Leiter Room. In addition to having an opportunity to listen and ask questions of doctors and other health care providers, attendees will receive a free Mercy 101 binder for their materials and also be able to take advantage of free health screenings and occasional giveaways at many sessions. Mercy 101 classes will begin at 6:30 p.m. and last one hour. Registration is required and may be done online at www.mercysiouxcity.com. Click on the Classes and Events tab and select Mercy 101 from the Event drop-down box or register by phone at 712-279-2989. Attendees may attend as many of the monthly sessions as they like. Early registrations are encouraged as a few of the classes are already close to capacity. Here is the schedule for the first four months of Mercy 101. The remaining schedule beginning in February will be released later this fall.
