Two Mercy Patient Care Departments Chosen for McAuley Award
Sister Catherine McAuley, the foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, always admonished her sisters to provide compassionate care to all those who were in need, particularly the poor and the underserved. In the 123 year history of Mercy Medical Center, those founding principles still direct the healing work being done every single day at Mercy.
One of the most prestigious ways in which Mercy recognizes the work being done by its associates is with the Catherine McAuley Excellence award, given to those associates whose work is consistent with what Sr. Catherine would have expected.
Within the past two months, two patient care departments have been chosen for this honor. The January recipient of the McAuley award is the 6SW post surgical team and in February, the chosen honoree was the entire obstetrics team who care for patients in the Mercy Family Birth Center.
A patient and family nominated the post surgical department for the McAuley award because of the positive experience a loved one had while a patient at Mercy. The nomination came from a nurse from another institution and read, in part, “In my 26 years of nursing it is a rare occasion that I experience hospitals from the other side of the fence. I am so impressed with the compassion and caring displayed by everyone that we encountered at Mercy.”
The February award to the OB department was the result of a number of positive comments the department received from grateful moms and dads who expressed their appreciation for the work done by the area’s most experienced OB teams.
Both departments received special commendations from Mercy President and CEO Bob Peebles and a departmental reception to recognize their achievements.
