Dr. Bertha Ayi, the medical director of the Infectious Disease Clinic at Mercy Medical Center, will be expanding her service to Siouxland.
Dr. Ayi will soon be opening an additional office in Sioux City as the operator of Global Infectious Disease Services (GIDS), PC. In addition to her new role with GIDS, Dr. Ayi will continue to have an office at Mercy Medical Center and will serve as the Medical Director of Hospital Epidemiology and the Chairperson of the Infection Control committee. Dr. Ayi will continue to provide clinic hours at Mercy on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will continue to work closely with Dr. Daniel Lamptey in the Mercy Infectious Disease and Epidemiology Clinic. The changes go into effect July 1.
Dr. Ayi is well-known and respected throughout the Siouxland area. She has organized an annual Infectious Disease Symposium that has grown in popularity among Siouxland area healthcare providers. In 2008, Dr. Ayi authored the book, MRSA – Killer Bug: What You Need to Know to Protect Yourself. The book dealt with the dangerous spread of MRSA infection in the United States.
The native of Ghana has been at Mercy Medical Center since 2004. Dr. Ayi is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians.
As she expands her scope of services, Dr. Ayi will continue to work with local and regional physicians who call upon her expertise on matters relating to infectious disease issues.
