Mercy Medical Center President and CEO Bob Peebles today announced that long time Siouxland cardiologist Dr. Jerome Pierson has been named the new Chief Medical Officer for Mercy Medical Center. Dr. Pierson succeeds Dr. Larry Sellers in the role after Dr. Sellers returned to private practice with Mercy Internal Medicine.
Dr. Pierson has been a part of the Siouxland medical community since 1992 when he joined Cardiovascular Associates, P.C. (CVA). During his twenty years of service to the residents of Siouxland, Dr. Pierson has developed a reputation as a high-quality physician who enjoys tremendous patient loyalty. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Pierson has been highly engaged in community initiatives including the Mercy Medical Center Foundation, a trustee to the Woodbury County Medical Society, a presenter at numerous community health fairs, high school career days and coaching youth athletic teams.
Mercy President and CEO Bob Peebles says the addition of Dr. Pierson to the Mercy leadership team is great news for the hospital, its patients and its physician partners. “Dr. Pierson is highly respected by everyone who comes in contact with him,” said Peebles. “As part of the Mercy senior team, he will have a unique opportunity to work with both our senior administrators as well as our physician partners. His role is critical as we become less hospital-centric and more aligned with the needs of the population we are privileged to serve.” Peebles went on to say, “We are both excited and blessed to have the opportunity to work with such a respected physician. Dr. Pierson has established an impressive legacy in this community and we are honored that he will bring his unique talents to Mercy Medical Center.”
Dr. Pierson is a native of Torrance, California and did his undergraduate studies at Los Angeles Harbor College and California State in Long Beach. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Medicine and has done post-doctoral work at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and Wadsworth/UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. Dr. Pierson joined CVA in 1992 and has served in a number of leadership roles in his physician group and at Mercy Medical Center.
On accepting the new role at Mercy, Dr. Pierson noted his long-time association with the hospital. “Mercy is a faith-based, mission-driven hospital”, said Dr. Pierson. “I’ve spent more than twenty years walking the halls at Mercy and I’m always amazed at the work being done here by our great physician partners, nurses and techs who clearly focus on the best interest of the patients. I am truly honored to serve Mercy Medical Center in this new capacity.”
Dr. Pierson will begin his new role as Mercy Medical Center’s Chief Medical Officer on Monday, July 9.
