Tayfun Gurbuz, M.D., an experienced cardiothoracic surgeon, has joined Mercy Medical Center—Sioux City.
Dr. Gurbuz has been performing surgery at Mercy Medical Center since February, 2013, when he joined the staff as a visiting physician.
Dr. Gurbuz earned his medical degree at Hacettepe University Medical School in Ankara, Turkey. He completed his residency in general surgery at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colorado, and his residency in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in Memphis. Dr. Gurbuz completed his cardiac surgery fellowship at the Albert Starr Academic Center for Cardiac Surgery in Portland, Oregon. He has earned a number of academic honors through the course of his educational career.
Dr. Gurbuz is board certified in general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery. Beating- heart bypass surgery, mitral valve repair, minimally invasive heart valve surgery, surgery for atrial fibrillation and aortic root and aneurysm surgery are among his fields of interest in cardiac surgery. He specializes in aneurysms of abdominal and thoracic aorta, peripheral vascular disease, lung cancer surgery, carotid artery surgery as well as all aspects of endovascular surgery.
Mercy Cardiothoracic Surgeons is located on the fifth floor of the Mercy Heart Center in downtown Sioux City. Mercy is home to the only open-heart surgery program in the Siouxland area.
