Grandparenting Class

Scenarios

Read each scenario and either write down or think about what your response would be. Are you ready to become a grandparent?

1) Your daughter has asked you to spend the first week home from the hospital with them. What tips can you think of to make this a pleasant week for everyone?

2) Your daughter-in-law and son live in the same town as you. They do not want you to stay with them after the birth of the second baby. What other ways could you be helpful to them?

3) Your daughter-in-law has decided to breastfeed her first baby. In a telephone conversation, she tells you that the baby (now five days old) has been fussy and up several times during the night. How do you respond?

4) Your newest granddaughter has colic. She fusses for long periods of time. Her parents are tired and discouraged. What might you say to them?

5) Grandparents can make unique contributions to a child's life. Think of some of the gifts you have to offer.
