The University of Iowa Health Alliance (UIHA) and CoOportunity Health are collaborating to introduce two unique health plan products which will be available this fall for coverage effective January 1, 2014.
This new insurance company, CoOportunity Health, is a CO-OP - a Consumer Operated and Oriented Plan for Iowa. It is:
- backed by the federal government
- meets the requirements of the Accountable Care Act and
- is meant to introduce new options for Iowans in our market
Much like a farmer's or electric co-op, members own and operate the company. The UIHA products will address needs of individuals and businesses seeking health insurance on Iowa's new Health Insurance Marketplace beginning Oct. 1, 2013.
CoOportunity Choice UI Health Alliance and CoOportunity Preferred UI Health Alliance feature a provider network that includes all member organizations of UIHA, including Genesis Health System, Mercy Cedar Rapids, Mercy Health Network (including hospitals affiliated with CHE Trinity Health, Livonia, Michigan), and University of Iowa Health Care. This alliance of four entities includes over 50 hospitals and more than 160 clinics across Iowa with key locations in Des Moines, Davenport, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Sioux City, Dubuque, and Mason City.
