Cardiothoracic Surgeons
Each year, hundreds of patients come to Mercy Heart Center and Siouxland’s only open-heart surgery program for replacement or repair of heart valves, bypasses of blocked coronary arteries and treatment of abnormal heartbeat (arrhythmia). Highly skilled cardiovascular surgeons have performed more than 7,000 open-heart surgeries since the open-heart program started in 1978.
Mercy's surgeons continue to offer Heart Center patients the latest surgical
advances in heart disease treatment. Supporting the surgeons is
a dedicated team that consists of a board certified perfusion staff,
anesthesiologists with fellowships in cardiovascular procedures,
a specialized operating room staff and experienced nurses in cardiac
patient care units.
