Patient Care Units
The
entire Mercy Heart Center team is dedicated to a high standard of
personalized care. We recognize the importance of treating patients
and their families with respect, compassion and dignity.
Mercy Heart Center’s critical care units are designed and
equipped to care for acutely ill cardiovascular patients. Cardiovascular
Intensive Care Units care for patients immediately after open-heart
surgery and for patients experiencing acute myocardial infarction
as well as other electrical/mechanical dysfunctions. The latest
monitoring technology and a highly trained nursing staff are critical
elements that come together in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care
Units to deliver optimum patient care.
The Post Critical Care Unit is a “step-down” unit that
provides highly specialized care to pre- and post-operative open-heart
surgery patients. The unit also cares for patients who have had
myocardial infarctions, congestive heart failure, chest pain, cardiac
arrhythmias and coronary interventions such as angioplasty and stents.
The Heart Center’s fifth floor also includes a new, short
stay unit with 12 patient beds – nine private rooms and a
three-bed recovery area. The nine private rooms are used for patients
preparing for and recovering from catheterization procedures, as
well as preparing for cardiac surgery. The three-bed recovery area
is a holding area to service the various needs of Heart Center inpatients.
