Mercy Medical Center Sioux City

Mercy Auxiliary

The auxiliary provides invaluable services to Mercy. Members volunteer in many of the hospital's projects such as the Pediatric Orientation Program (P.O.P.). P.O.P. teaches first-grade children about hospitals by giving tours, answering their questions and lessening their fears. The auxiliary also operates Mercy's gift shop, donating the revenue back to the hospital to be used for many worthwhile projects.

Volunteerism is the cornerstone of Mercy Medical Center's Auxiliary. The following list describes some of the various auxiliary projects you may choose to participate in. Auxiliary years run from July 1st to June 30th, with two all member meetings a year. The Auxiliary is open to Siouxland community members as well as active and retired employees. Dues start at just $10 a year. Please call Jennifer in Volunteer Services at 712-279-2137 for additional information.

Adopt-a-Family - An auxiliary committee coordinates a Christmas gifting program throughout the hospital for employee families in need.

Prayer Shawls - Knitted or crocheted by volunteers, these shawls are given out by medical staff to any patient who needs extra support, love and prayers. This popular program started for the Oncology floor and has been expanded to cover the entire patient population. From a generous donation, we have a supply of yarn that can be checked out to create these shawls.

Nursing Scholarship - Each spring the Auxiliary awards a $500 scholarship to a student who is a junior in a Bachelor of Science nursing degree program at one of four designated colleges or universities.

Other special projects include providing walker and wheelchair caddies to rehabilitation patients in need, holiday blankets made for the first baby born on select holidays, Mercy bibs for every baby born at our medical center and Mercy pillowcases and pillows for patients who have had abdominal procedures.

Fundraising Committee - Brings in outside vendors, such as the popular $5 Masquerade Jewelry sales, Mountain Man Fruit and Nut, Scentsy Candle, fresh apples from Hebda Farms, JR Expressions Art Show and our famous Holiday Show and Sale every November.

Gift Shop - The Kaleidoscope Gift Shop is open Monday-Friday 9 to 5 and weekends noon to 4 and has a variety of gifts, flowers and sundries. Delivery to patients and staff is free of charge.

Annually the Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary awards grants that enhance and improve services at Mercy Medical Center. The money for these grants is raised by proceeds from the Kaleidoscope Gift Shop and through various fund raisers held throughout the year.
