Women’s Night Out:
Mercy to Host Siouxland’s Most Popular Women’s Event Oct. 3 and 4

Judy CarterWomen’s Night Out, the biggest annual event for women in the Siouxland region, has met with phenomenal success since it was founded by Mercy Medical Center—Sioux City seven years ago.

The unique event – which seeks to promote the health and well being of women in a luxurious, experiential fashion – has proven exceedingly popular. What was in 2001 the first event of its kind in the area has only continued to grow.

Last year, Mercy expanded the popular event to two nights to accommodate more women. Still, all 3,000 available seats for the annual event quickly sold out. In the previous five years, all tables for the event were also reserved within just a few days.

It seems clear that thousands of Siouxland women cherish the chance to enjoy a relaxing, interactive and entertaining evening intended just for them.

Mercy will host its sixth annual Women’s Night Out on Wednesday, Oct. 3 and Thursday, Oct. 4 at the Sioux City Convention Center. The whole event – from the meal to the entertainment – will once again be duplicated on back-to-back fall evenings, so women can opt to attend on either of the two nights. A total of 1,500 tickets will be sold for each of the two evenings.

“Last year, we were pleased to give more women a chance to enjoy an evening out with their friends and colleagues by expanding the event,” says Beth Sitzmann, one of the principal organizers of Women’s Night Out. “Even with more tickets available last year, the response was astonishing. Once again tickets sold out quickly.”

“Women from throughout the area have really embraced the concept of the event. They enjoy gathering with their friends for a relaxing, pampering evening of fun, good food and entertainment,” Sitzmann adds.

Women’s Night Out will begin at 4:30 p.m. each night with a welcome reception at which women can enjoy hors d’ouerves and beverages while visiting more than 40 “centers of health and beauty.” Provided in partnership with a number of Siouxland area businesses, those centers will offer women a bit of pampering and timely information related to such topics as hair styling and makeovers, color analysis, massage, clothing and accessories, among many others. In what is a new feature this year for the event, women will have the chance to shop and purchase items at selected centers of health and beauty.

An elegant dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. each night. This year, a salad of Baby Greens with Honey Balsamic Vinaigrette, Rosemary and Honey Glazed Pork Tenderloin with Dijon Mustard Sauce, Baby Green Spring Vegetables, Orzo, and Seven Layer Chocolate Dessert are on the menu. Vegetarian meals will also be available for those requesting them in advance.

The featured entertainer for Women’s Night Out 2007 will be Judy Carter, a master teacher, author and humorous speaker. Carter will present “Don’t Get Mad…Get Funny.”

Carter started her career as a magician and later as a stand-up comic. Ten years ago she formed Comedy Workshop Productions, a school for aspiring comics. She is the author of Standup Comedy: The Book, which sold over 150,000 copies. Her latest book, The Comedy Bible, is described as a definitive guide to making a career out of making people laugh.

Carter has appeared on over 100 television shows including Oprah. She has been profiled on news reports on several TV networks.

Mercy will also give away dozens of door prizes each night.

All women – even those who are unable to attend – will have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for two very unique, luxurious items. The grand prize will be a one-of-a-kind omega necklace with diamond pendant that was custom-made for Women’s Night Out by Gunderson’s Jewelers. Another raffle prize will be an all-inclusive, 8-day Carnival cruise to the Carribean, Key West, Cozumel and Grand Cayman (including airfare) donated to the event by Nancy Huseth of Creative Travel.

Corporate sponsors for Women’s Night Out 2007 include Avery Brothers, the Breast Care Center, Gunderson’s Jewelers, and the Sioux City Journal.

Tickets for the seventh annual Women’s Night Out go on sale at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25. They will be sold only at the Tyson Events Center box office and through Ticketmaster.

Tickets can be purchased with cash, check or credit card. You will have the option to purchase tickets in person at the box office, or you can order by phone or on-line from the Ticketmaster web site.
