Annual Broken Toe Trail Run in Stone Park Slated for Oct. 6

Mercy Medical Center—Sioux City will host its fourth annual Broken Toe Trail Run/Walk on Oct. 6 at Stone Park near Sioux City.

The unique event for individuals, families and corporate teams seeks to promote health, fitness and appreciation of Siouxland’s natural resources.

Siouxland residents and visitors wishing to take part in the Oct. 6 event can enter either the four-mile trail race or the walking event.  Those choosing to walk can opt for either a four or two-mile course.

Prizes will be awarded to race participants in various age categories.

Organized by Missouri River Runners, IowaActive.com and the Friends of Stone Park, the event is named for one of the trails running through the park, which will be part of the course.

“Trail running is an interesting, challenging experience,” said Brent Copple, the race director.  “It is a unique mental challenge on top of the physical demands.”

“The Broken Toe Trail Run/Walk has been very well received in its first three years, and we hoping get even more runners from around the region interested in this unique event,” Copple added.

Interested participants are urged to register for the run or walk before Oct. 1 to receive an event T-shirt.  A limited supply of T-shirts will be available on the day of the event for those registering at that time.

If received before Oct. 1, the entry fee is $10 per person for the walk or $15 per person for the run.  After Oct. 1, the charge will be $20 per person for the trail run, and $15 for the walk.
Those participating in the event can pick up their packets in advance at Peak Performance on Friday, Oct. 5 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

On-site registration and check-in will begin at 9:00 a.m. in the Pammel Valley picnic area in Stone Park.  The four-mile race will begin at 10:00 a.m.  The walk will start at 10:05 a.m.  Exact routes through the park will be announced on the day of the event.  In the event of heavy rain, the race will be held on paved surfaces in the park.

The event is being sponsored by Mercy, CH Alpha, Chesterman Company, Absolute Screen Art, Daily Grind, Peak Performance, IowaActive.com, and Denny Miller Insurance.
