Mercy to Host Infectious Disease Symposium
Mercy Medical Center—Sioux City will hold its 2005 Infectious
Disease Symposium for physicians, nurses and other medical professionals
on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the Sioux City Convention Center.
The conference will provide attendees with the latest information
about the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases.
Bertha Ayi, MD, associate medical director of Mercy’s Infectious
Disease Clinic, will present infectious disease case studies from
the Siouxland area. Barbee Bancroft, RN, MSN, clinical educator
and president of CPP Associates in Chicago, will share information
about the pathology and treatment of common bites observed in clinical
practices.
Rachel Gorwitz, MD, medical epidemiologist with the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, will present information
on the challenges and controversies related to community-acquired
MRSA. Dale Gerding, MD, associate chief of staff for research and
development at Hines Veterans’ Affairs Hospital in Hines,
IL, will provide an update on clostridium difficile infections.
Patricia Quinlisk, MD, state epidemiologist with the Iowa Department
of Public Health, will discuss emerging issues affecting public
health.
Continuing education credit will be available for physicians, nurses
and other healthcare professionals.
The cost for the one-day conference is $65 for physicians and midlevel
providers and $55 for all other healthcare professions provided
that registrations are postmarked by Sept. 13. Late registration
fees will be $10 more after Sept. 13.
