Family Birth Center

Our Nursing Staff

The supportive, individualized care provided by our knowledgeable staff allows for an exceptional experience throughout your stay. You will have the opportunity to bond with your baby and learn to care for your infant under the guidance of nurses who specialize in newborns and their families. Our nurses have an average of 18 years experience in assisting with labor, birth and early parenting and all are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Neonatal Resusitation (NRP). Hear what three of our many nurses have to say about working in Mercy’s Family Birth Center.

Pam Schink

“I have more than 18 years of service in OB/Labor and Delivery at Mercy as an RN with a diploma degree. We truly care about our families. We offer support, encouragement, advice and more because our patients are important to us. We almost become part of the family for a few days. That’s why I have been here 18 years.” Pam Weyen
Shelly Anderson

“I have worked at Mercy for 18 years, approximately 17 of them in OB. I have my bachelor’s degree in nursing, and I am nationally certified as an inpatient obstetrical nurse. I like working in the Family Birth Center because it is one of the few areas where you get to help bring joy to peoples’ lives and witness miracles on a daily basis. Our Family Birth Center is small enough to provide individualized care to our patients and their families. Our nurses have many years of experience and provide what I feel is the best care in the Siouxland area.” Shelly Anderson
Jacquelynn Goettsch “I have been working at the Family Birth Center for 35 years. I have a diploma in nursing and a bachelor’s degree, and I am nationally certified as an inpatient obstetrical nurse. I especially enjoy working with laboring moms and helping them through the birthing process. I feel a sense of accomplishment when I make a difference in the parents’ labor and birth experience, helping them to have the best possible experience because of the support I provide. I particularly like the Family Birth Center at Mercy because of the families we care for, the flexibility and experience of the nursing staff, the warmth and friendliness of the physicians, the community education programs offered to the families and the overall Midwestern values.” Jacquelynn Goettsch
