MISSION

The mission of Hospice is to provide comfort, support and compassionate care to people with life-limiting illnesses and to their families in a manner that respects and cherishes the dignity and uniqueness of each individual, and to foster community acceptance that dying is an integral part of living.

Hospice CareHOSPICE MEANS COMFORT AND DIGNITY…Hospice is not a place, but rather a way of caring that brings comfort to people at the end of life, and offers support and understanding to them and their families. Hospice helps people with life-limiting illnesses live their remaining life alert and pain free, nourished by the support of their loved ones. Hospice patients live their final days with peace and dignity in the comfort of their own homes or residences such as nursing homes.

HOSPICE MEANS HOLISTIC CARE…Hospice care centers on the many different needs of patients and families. Hospice’s professional staff and physicians assist with care by providing pain management and symptom control for patients, as well as offering emotional support for patients and families. Hospice staff are part of an interdisciplinary team which includes physicians, nurses, social workers, home health aides, counselors, clergy and volunteers. Other team members include pharmacists, dietary counselors, physical, occupational, and speech therapists and other professionals who may help enhance a patient’s quality of life.

HOSPICE CARES FOR…

  • people with an illness causing a limited life expectancy
  • people who choose pain management , care and comfort rather than curative treatment
  • people who choose no extreme means to sustain life
  • people of all ages from infants to adults
  • people with end-stage conditions including cancer, heart disease, lung disease, AIDS, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), Alzheimer’s, and kidney failure
  • family members and friends who are grieving the loss of a loved one.

HOSPICE RECEIVES REFERRALS… and requests for information from patients , family members, healthcare professionals, clergy members, and friends. Hospice is reimbursed by Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, HMO, and many private insurance companies. No one is denied Hospice service based on their insurance or financial circumstances. Contributions to Hospice, a non-profit organization, allows us to provide service regardless of a patients ability to pay. Contributions also fully fund our bereavement program which offers support to Hospice families for thirteen months following the death of their loved one.

HOSPICE VOLUNTEERS…The comprehensive service of Hospice would not be possible without the contributions of our dedicated Hospice Volunteers. Volunteers are the backbone of Hospice care. They provide a listening ear, companionship, and a variety of other helpful tasks. Running errands, light housekeeping, or childcare, are gifts of time and energy that bring needed comfort and rest to Hospice patients and their family members. We provide an orientation program to persons interested in helping patients and families facing a life threatening illness. Call the Hospice office today to find out more about Hospice Volunteering.

HOSPICE SERVICE IS… available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. For more information or to arrange for Hospice service, please call.
