Our
New Pediatric Unit
Mercy Medical Center’s new state-of-the-art Pediatric Unit
is dedicated to the care of children from newborns to teens. In
the electronically secured, 12-bed unit, each room is equipped with
a DVD and VHS system as well as Internet connections. Parents are
encouraged to room-in with their children. They are provided with
amenities such as bedside sleep chairs, showers and meals so they
can continue to provide the love and comfort that a child needs
when he or she is sick.
When hospitalization is required, parents can take comfort in knowing
that Mercy’s Pediatric Unit and outstanding Level
II Special Care Nursery provide expert, compassionate care for
infants, children and their families. In fact, the entire ninth
floor of the hospital is dedicated exclusively for family- centered
childbirth and children’s services.

Our Staff
Mercy’s pediatric nurses are specially trained and certified
in pediatric advanced life support. Children who have been in accidents,
need surgery or require hospitalization because they are ill are
cared for using specialized equipment – whether their diagnosis
is simple or complex. Our nurses provide special support for breastfeeding
moms to enable them to continue providing this important nutrient
and nurturance for their hospitalized infant or toddler.
Dietitians are available to assess your child’s nutritional
needs. A staff of social workers provides assistance with any concerns
or special family needs. Our pastoral care department is available
24 hours a day for spiritual comfort and care.
Visitation
We know that family and friends are important to a child’s
recovery. That’s why we offer open visitation for those the
family feels is important for their child to see, including siblings.
Surgical
Services
Mercy’s surgical services department provides a wide range
of services for children in a child-friendly environment. Services
include ear, nose and throat surgeries, urology procedures, general
surgery and ophthalmology procedures. Parents may accompany their
child, who rides in a wagon to the surgical suite. Our Level
II Trauma Center also provides life-saving trauma care for children
and adolescents.
Home Care Services
Mercy’s Home Care staff
provides special services for children in their own home. These
services include skilled nursing, phototherapy, intravenous therapy
and respite services.
Support Services
Mercy offers several other children’s support services:
- Respiratory therapy
- Speech therapy
- Oncology support services
- Child Advocacy Center
- Physical therapy
- Diabetic education
- Spanish and other language interpreters
