Hand Therapy

Occupational therapy is often recommended for people who are experiencing difficulties with hand function due to:

  • Amputations
  • Arthritis
  • Wounds
  • Burns
  • Tendinitis
  • Fractures
  • Sprains/strains
  • Nerve injuries
  • Sports injuries
  • Tendon injuries
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Peripheral neuropathies

At the clinic the occupational therapist will work closely with the referring physician to evaluate the patient. Based on the results of the evaluation, the occupational therapist may provide one or more of the following services:

  • Informing you about the diagnosis
  • Caring for wounds/scar management
  • Assisting with techniques to improve range of motion, sensation or strength
  • Fabricating a splint to position, protect, strengthen or increase function
  • Teaching ways to protect your joints and conserve your energy
  • Evaluating your ability to perform tasks required at work and designing a program to help you achieve the necessary skills
  • Analyzing the need for changes in the work environment to prevent further injury or difficulty on the job
  • Providing special equipment to improve function
