We are a 10-bed short-term skilled care unit designed to care for
people who need daily medical attention and health supervision,
but no longer need the full range of hospital services. Independence
through training, teaching, and maximizing of the patient's functional
potential are stressed. We serve a variety of illnesses including:
stroke, orthopedics, IV therapy, brain injury, severe illnesses
and many more.
One of the program's goals is to assist
individuals in maximizing independence in their care and mobility
within the limits of their capacity and to help reintegrate them
into the community. Patients are progressively expected to take
on day-to-day responsibility for themselves and their surroundings.
Our skilled care unit is covered by
Medicare, and may also be included in other private insurance policies.
In order to be eligible for payment, our facility is required to
comply with extensive federal and state requirements.
Referral
and Admission
Admission is based on guidelines defined
by Medicare, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare
Organizations, and the State of Iowa.
Length of Stay
How long private insurance
and Medicare will pay for skilled care depends upon the length of
time your care needs comply with standards and criteria. Our Medical
Social Worker/Discharge Planner will be working with you so you
are aware of your projected discharge date. They also will help
you plan so that determined services are in place at home when discharge
day arrives. Adequate preparation for discharge requires early and
active participation of the patient, the family and all others concerned.
