Tips to Prevent Injury
Buckle Up
Troo
This one important step could save your life or lessen the severity of your injury. In a recent study, Mercy Trauma Center found that use of a seatbelt significantly reduced the severity of injuries.
Gear Up
Use Protective Gear
Use of protective gear during sports such as rollerblading and bicycling can mean the difference between a severe head injury and minor or no injury. Wear helmets, pads, wrist guards and proper fitting rollerblades.
Suit Up
Life Jacket
Life jackets are important for safe boating and swimming. Water related injury represents the second most common cause of unintentional deaths in the 5 to 44 age group.
Wake Up
Don't Drive Drunk
Driving while impaired puts yourself and others at risk. Often drivers involved in fatal motor vehicle crashes were intoxicated. If you have had alcohol do not get behind the wheel of any vehicle.
Speak Up
Speak up against violence. If you are in a violent relationship there are many agencies that can help. Approximately 1.8 million women a year are assaulted by their partners. Assault is preventable. Get help. National Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-7233.

For other safety information related to motor vehicles, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration web site.
