The Voice Clinic Team at Mercy Medical Center-Sioux City
David V. Wagner,
MD is the Medical Director of the Voice Clinic at
Mercy Medical Center-Sioux City. Dr. Wagner is a practicing otolaryngologist
(ear, nose, throat or ENT) in Sioux City, IA. He received his medical
degree from the University of Iowa in 1987. He completed his internship
and residency at the University of Washington in Seattle and the
University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. After completing
his otolaryngology training, he pursued advanced training in head
and neck oncologic and reconstructive surgery at the University
of Iowa. The Voice Clinic at Mercy Medical Center-Sioux City is
an outgrowth of Dr. Wagners strong interest in vocal disorders.
Dwight L. Birkley, PA-C received a Bachelor
of Science in Nursing from Briar Cliff College in 1983. He obtained a Master of Science in
Administrative Studies from the University of South Dakota in 1994. He was certified as a
physician assistant through the University of North Dakota 1998. Prior to coming to the
Voice Clinic, Dwight gained extensive experience in health care in the Emergency
Department at St. Lukes Medical Center in Sioux City. He served as nursing director
at St. Lukes from 1986-1992 and as outreach manager at St. Lukes from
1992-1997. Dwight is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
Jacqueline
Nagel, CCC-SLP received a Masters of Arts degree in Communication
Disorders from the University of South Dakota in 1989 and the American
Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competency
in 1990. She is licensed to practice in the states of Iowa and Nebraska.
She currently works through the Mercy's Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Unit in Sioux City, IA. Her responsibilities include performing
a variety of diagnostic evaluations and therapeutic techniques with
speech and voice patients of all ages. She is a dedicated member
of the Voice Clinic team at Mercy Medical Center-Sioux City and
is co-facilitator of Mercys Voice Disorders Support Group.
Julia Goth-Avery, CCC-SLP
received a Masters of Arts degree in Communication Disorders from the University of
Northern Iowa in 1987. She obtained here Certificate of Clinical Competency in 1988
through ASHA. Julia is employed with the Speech Pathology and Audiology Department of the
Mercy's Physical Medicine and Rehabilitative Unit in Sioux City. Her experience includes
working with patients suffering from various neurologic communication disorders. She is a
dedicated member of the Voice Clinic team at Mercy Medical Center-Sioux City.
